Youth Programs & Opportunities

At Arizona Musicfest, we take it upon ourselves to make the young people in our community our most special constituency. Because of budget cuts from school districts and government programs, the music education opportunities of far too many children have been left behind. We at Arizona Musicfest give of our time and treasure to make our Education Programs and Youth Performance Opportunities a cornerstone of our organization.

What a special day for young readers and student musicians! On January 23, 2010, Barnes & Noble Desert Ridge hosted Arizona Musicfest Day with Arizona Musicfest volunteers providing special events throughout the day. It was a great way to combine love of reading with the love of music.

From the musically themed Story Time in the morning to the Creative Face Painting at the end of the day, the kids kept busy. They were spellbound by the Instrument Petting Zoo provided by enthusiastic music students from Cave Creek Unified School District middle schools. Those good natured band students patiently allowed the younger children to examine their trumpet, saxophones, clarinets, flutes and drums.
Two mini-concerts by exceptional young musicians, veterans of Young Musicians Competitions, riveted everyone’s attention by playing and talking about their music, instruments and experiences. Even folks who wandered in off the street and had no idea what was going on stopped to listen and wholeheartedly applaud.

Barnes & Noble Desert Ridge donated a percentage of their proceeds from book purchases made that day to Arizona Musicfest to help keep music in local schools.
