The Arizona Musicfest Festival Chorus

Rebecca Lord, DMA – Chorus Master

Arizona Musicfest Chorus

The Arizona Musicfest Chorus in performance, directed by Maestro Robert Moody, on February 26, 2009.

One of Robert Moody’s most enduring gifts to our community was the formation of The Phoenix Symphony Chorus, which received critical acclaim under his leadership. As the new Artistic Director of Arizona Musicfest, he wasted no time creating a new chorus for the Festival, comprised of some of the best vocalists in the Valley. Prepared by chorus master Joel Rinsema, this volunteer ensemble of over 70 debuted in 2008 in Bach’s Sleepers Awake! and the stirring Requiem by Andrew Lloyd Webber. The following year, the chorus joined soloists Elizabeth Bishop and Troy Cook in the powerful Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem. The 2010 Festival featured an entire evening with the Festival Orchestra and Chorus performing the best-loved music from grand opera. The 90+ member chorus for this year’s concert of the monumental Ninth Symphony by Beethoven includes members of the Scottsdale Chorale Artists, Jennaya Robison director. The participation of these fine vocalists is gratefully acknowledged.

A member of Actor’s Equity, Rebecca has performed as a professional actress for over fifteen years, including two years in residence with the Tony Award-winning Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis. She has performed as a violinist for professional opera, ballet and theatre companies, on tour, and in the recording studio. She has conducted public school choral music in the state of Pennsylvania, and both choral and orchestral music in the state of Utah.

In addition to earning her Doctorate of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in conducting at UCLA, she earned her Bachelor of Music degree, summa cum laude, in vocal performance at Georgia State University and a certificate in acting at Broadway’s Circle in the Square Theatre School. She has also studied extensively at the Eastman School of Music and the Chautauqua Institute.
