Announcing the Formation of the Arizona Musicfest Chorus
Artistic Director Robert Moody announced the formation of the Arizona Musicfest Chorus, which will debut at Musicfest 2008. The chorus will perform Bach’s familiar and stirring Wachet Auf and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requiem on February 22, 2008. “Everyone knows the lyrical Pie Jesu from Webber’s Requiem. It was a Top 40 hit and won a Grammy in 1986” Moody said. The chorus will be joined by the Musicfest Festival Orchestra and guest soloists Tracy Dahl, soprano, and John McVeigh, tenor, in this inspiring modern masterpiece.

“I invite vocalists interested in joining this volunteer chorus to come to a read-through on Saturday, October 20, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Desert Hills Presbyterian Church,” said Maestro Moody. “Auditions for singers who have not performed with me when I was Chorus Master of The Phoenix Symphony Chorus will be held immediately after the read-through.”

Desert Hills Presbyterian Church is located at 34605 North Scottsdale Road, Carefree (at the intersection of Carefree Highway and Scottsdale Road).

D’Addario Foundation Underwrites Instruments for Children
For the second year, the John & Joan D’Addario Foundation has provided a generous gift to Musicfest. These funds will be used to purchase additional musical instruments for schools of the Cave Creek Unified School District. The children love learning to play and perform together. Thanks to these exceptional benefactors, more students will benefit from the magic of music.

Thank you John and Joan!

Buzz Katzen and Marita Gallagher
Buzz Katzen
Buzz Katzen Named
“Volunteer of the Year”

Arizona Musicfest Volunteer Coordinator Marita Gallagher presented the 2007 “Volunteer of the Year” award to Buzz Katzen at the annual Interlude party for volunteers, supporters and Festival Orchestra members on February 21st. Buzz is the group’s “go to” guy when it comes to finding jazz guest artists for concerts during the annual festival. As a result, Musicfest audiences have been treated to a series of concerts by the finest jazz ensembles and cabaret artists. Buzz’s extraordinary efforts include not only finding great talent, he often “builds the band”. He engages the artists individually with a view to creating a great band sound, whether it’s for Musicfest audiences or revelers at the group’s annual gala fund raiser. Marita’s announcement of the award was greeted with rousing applause and a standing ovation.
