Nothing is as wonderful as live classical music in concert settings to excite children about classical music and inspire them to make it part of their daily lives. Arizona Musicfest’s Brummitt-Taylor Classical Listening CD program is a start, but the live concert performances are the icing on the cake!
For many years, Arizona Musicfest had brought live classical concerts to students in the area. Each season we bring the Phoenix Symphony Guild’s Phoenix Symphony Symphonette, a full orchestra of some 90-100 7th through 12th grade musicians, to perform for 3rd through 5th graders from the Cave Creek Unified School District at Pinnacle Presbyterian Church. These students hear fine musicians just a bit older than themselves perform works from all areas of the classical repertoire.
Arizona Musicfest has also provided live concert experiences for older students who play musical instruments. In 2006, the Musicfest Festival Orchestra performed for instrumental and vocal students in the Cave Creek Unified School District. We also provide concert opportunities for charter, private schools and home schooled children in the area, as well as students in the Paradise Valley School District.
To prepare children for concerts, Arizona Musicfest docents visit the classroom and introduce the music and composers to the children. Music teachers take part in this effort as well.
Arizona Musicfest believes that offering children the opportunity to hear live music will heighten their interest in instrumental programs and encourage them to become the concert goers of the future.
